Define Genetics and explain how mendel developed his theories on genetics based on his work with pea plants.

genetics - the science of heredity, dealing with resemblances of related organisms resulting from the interaction of their genes and the environment.

Mendel used pea plants in order to compare and contrasts the generations and offspring from parent plants.

Mendel developed his theories by experimenting with pea plants by cross-pollinating and true-breeding them. By doing this he had 2 conclusions.
1. the principle of dominance that states that some alleles are dominant and others are recessive.
2. biological inheritence is determined by factors that are passed from one generation to the next.

1) Genetics is the the science of heredity.
2) Gregor Mendel used pea plants to compare the differences between the Parental generation and the first filial generation. Based on his findings he found something called the principle of dominance.

GENETICS: the scientific study of heredity

He studied the different traits inherited by the F1 generation, from the P generation, by cross-pollinating and true-breeding them.
He realized that:
1. Some alleles are dominant and some are recessive.
2. If a parent has a dominant trait it will be passed to the next generation.

Mendel used pea plants to figure out how genetics worked. He did many different tests such as true-breeding them or cross pollinating them, and discovered some patterns through looking at the phenotypes.

Mendel devoled his theories by cross pollinating smooth yellow pea plants with wrinkly green peas.Mendel learned from this that there are two kinds of traits - dominant and recessive. He also learned that the inheritance of each trait is determined by "units" or "factors" - now called genes.

Mendel used pea plants because he knew that they had pollen witch contain the male reproductive cell and the female portion of the cell. so he cut out the male part of the cell and got the pollen from the female part and put it into another plant and got different resuts
